Service

Tau Beta Sigma embodies a leadership-through-service model. Through service to our community, we hope to strengthen not only our service learning skills and leadership, but also strengthen our bond between sisters, KKY brothers with whom we work closely with on many joint projects, and of course - our community. Sisters are required to complete one service event in the fall semester and two during the winter semester. Most of our service is music-oriented, like leading sectionals at nearby schools or hosting instrument petting zoos where kids get to try out different instruments. We also run a few service projects that are not music related, such as nature area preservation days.

  • Notable Service Projects

    • Scarlett Middle School

      • Individual sisters volunteer to teach private lessons to students at a nearby middle school. Started because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our sisters have created special bonds with the middle school students!

    • DP Day

      • We partner with a student organization on campus called Detroit Partnership, who is focused on volunteering in Detroit. On this day, we join thousands of other students and engage in service, while also developing an appreciation for the city of Detroit.

    • Caroling

      • Every year our sisters organize a trip to a nearby nursing home to sing holiday music. We usually end with a rousing version of ‘The Victors’ and some of them sing along!

    • Instrument Petting Zoos

      • We do several instrument petting zoos at different events on campus, like Kid’s Fair, and at nearby schools. Sisters bring their instruments (and many disinfecting wipes) and let the kids try to play their instrument.
